The Entrapment -- Part 3
"So you'll pucker him up and -" Wilson began.
" - make him fall with one big swipe." she finished his sentence, and smirked.
Wilson gave the second low whistle for the day. "Woah, Skye. I didn't know you would go through such great lengths to climb to the top."
"Well, it's not for me," Skye told him, sincerely. "It's for the entire college population who never saw his utter failure. Sweet, sweet vengence. And pure entertainment."
He nearly spat out his green tea when he heard the comment. "Entertainment!" he exclaimed. "Good thing I'm on your side."
"Does that mean you will start hating me from now on?" she asked him, looking hopeful.
"Never," Wilson grinned mischieveously at Skye's scowl. "I love challenges. Wicked women is just what I need."
She couldn't help rolling her eyes to that statement.
***
For the next few weeks, Skye had been extremely successful in her plans to make Josh notice her presence. She caught his eye during lectures, chatted with him during breaks and never failed to flash him the sweetest smile whenever she could.
"I must say," Wilson started. "Your ingenius plan is working. I heard Josh telling Sam yesterday about how cute you were. He might just fall for you."
The duo were having their Chemistry tutorial in class that afternoon.
"Oh really?" Skye replied, scribbling her corrections furiously on her own script without looking at him. "It better work. I hate to see my efforts go down the drain."
"So what's the next move?" he asked, eyes widening with much interest.
She placed down her pen and looked seriously at Wilson. "Next is playing hard to get."
Wilson snorted. "Oh like what you're doing to me?"
"No," she giggled. "He will have a much higher chance of success of course."
Before he could retort back, Miss Ling, their Chemistry tutor, slammed down her marker on the table and screamed, "Are you two done with your little socialising session?"
***
Skye's big break came when she was assigned to Josh's team for the Science Carnival, organised by the college to promote awareness of Science to the students. During meetings, she had many golden opportunities to pucker up to him. She thought she would faint with joy when he approached her after the last meeting before the actual day for the Science carnival began.
"Hey," Josh tapped Skye's shoulder gently when the group piled out of the classroom.
"Yea, you have a job for me?" she asked him.
"Er, no. I was wondering if I could have your handphone number," he looked away as he asked her, showing mild embarrassment on his face.
"Is this for the team contact list or personal references?" she asked again, trying to keep a straight face.
"Personal," he flashed a toothy grin. "I don't think the team is gonna last after the carnival so I guess I don't need a contact list," he added in a matter-of-fact way.
"Sorry, my phone book is kinda full," she told him the stupid-est excuse she could make up. "Anyway, I need to run. Bye!"
She quickly ran off, leaving a speechless Josh behind.
***
The Science Carnival had a fair turnout rate the next day. Skye noticed that Josh couldn't stop looking at her during the various ongoing presentations and she did her best to keep a straight face. Soon, it was Josh's turn to present his project.
Throughout the talk, she couldn't help to notice a certain lazy drawl to his voice. She quickly snapped out of the thought though; she couldn't risk liking him.
After the entire event was over, Josh approached her yet again.
"If your phonebook is full, how about your email address?" he asked her, trying not to sound desperate as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Well, my email inbox is kind of full too," she crinkled her nose. "Sorry."
Awkward silence came.
"Don't worry about it," Skye gave him a sweet smile as she placed a hand on his arm. "We still can chat in school. Have fun for the rest of the day!"
This time, she walked away feeling like a true winner.
***
"Skye you better step up your engine," Wilson prompted her during their breaktime. "He's still topping every test and he just killed us all in the March Block Tests!"
It had been a week since the Science Carnival.
"Don't worry," Skye assured him as they made their way to the canteen. "I'm going to say yes when he asks me out for a date."
Wilson snorted. "Yea, and how is he going to do that without a damn contact of yours?"
"From what I know," she grinned as lowered her tone to a whisper. "He asked Frank for my number yesterday. He's going to call real soon."
"Not bad!" he commented, sounding impressed. "And when he falls deeply in love with you.." his voice trailed off.
"I'm going to break his heart," she finished the sentence yet again, beaming as wide as a Cheshire cat.
'And his morale,' she thought to herself.

The Entrapment -- Part 2
To nobody's surprise, Josh topped the cohort in Mathematics and Physics as well.
This urged Skye to carry out her viscious plan. However, the thought of doing so slowly ebbed away during the post-exam mood and soon, she had clean forgotten about it.
Until she met him again.
***
"What do you think of this jacket?" Andrea, Skye's best friend asked her, crinkling her nose in anticipation of Skye's response.
Skye and Andrea were on their holiday trip at Genting Highlands. It was already the last week of the holidays before the school term starts again and they made use of the break to do some retail entertainment.
"It's too black," Skye insisted, grabbing a hot pink jacket off another shelf. "Try this!"
Andrea whined. She hated pink.
As the duo continued to search for the appropriate jacket, Skye noticed a familiar face among the crowd of shoppers. She abandoned Andrea to satisfy her curiosity...
"Hey Skye!" a voice called out to her.
She moved closer and saw that it was a fellow college mate back in Singapore, Samuel.
"Hey Sam!" she grinned as she punched him playfully in the arm. "What a small world huh?"
"Yea," he nodded fervently. "I'm with my secondary school mates. You?"
"My best friend!" she chirped.
Before Samuel could answer, his friend called for him.
"Sam! Who are you talking to?"
When Skye turned to look at the stranger, she nearly screamed. It was no stranger to her at all. In fact, it was her worst nightmare.
It was Josh Lau, the notorious nerd from her school.
"Hey, you're that girl from college right?" Josh asked her politely, running his hand through his hair as he did so.
Somehow, Skye felt that his presence reminded her of her untouched holiday assignments left on her desk back home.
"Skye!" she heard Andrea call out irritably.
With that, Skye quickly excused herself to return to her best friend's side.
"Who are they?" Andrea questioned apprehensively. (She was not from Skye's school.)
"Oh they are just some people from school," she simply replied, scrutinising the outfit Andrea had just picked out.
Suddenly, the idea that she had months earlier hit her instantly.
'Looks like Heaven agrees with me,' Skye smiled to herself.
***
The last week ended as quickly as it had begun. Skye tried her best to finish as much as assignments as she could before Monday came but made only slight progress, to her disappointment. The only thing that really urged her to go back to school was the friends she had missed dearly. Which unfortunately, did not include Wilson.
"Hey, so did you buy me any love tokens from Malaysia? Truly Asia!" Wilson asked her when they met for the first time that Monday morning. He chuckled at his own joke.
"Not funny, Will," she scowled at him as she rearranged the load of books in her arms.
"What's with the books anyway? It's only the first day of school," he whined.
"I've got a plan," she grinned slyly as she whispered the idea to him. When she was done, Wilson's eyes grew wider and his jaw dropped.
"You can't be serious! You can such a bitch, sometimes," he gave a low whistle.
"Anything to get him out of the way," she said in a matter-of-fact way. "Oh here he comes!"
Skye left the gaping Wilson behind and hurried to Josh's direction. She then cleverly pretended to be absent-minded and bumped into him. Her books spilled helplessly onto the ground.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Josh apologised hurriedly and he bent over to help pick up her books.
"It's alright," she smiled at him, bending over as well to pick up the books as well.
"Hey, you're Samuel's friend! Skye, right?" he asked as he pushed the books back into her arms.
She carefully brushed her arm against his as he did so.
"Yup. Josh right? The famous legend who owned the cohort for the promos!" she giggled.
"Yea," he grinned. "Anyway I got to go. See you around!" He hurried off.
When he was out of sight, Wilson moved over to Skye's side.
"Way bitchy man," he emphasised.
"Thank you," she smiled back, apparently quite pleased with herself.
The plan had only just begun.

The Entrapment -- Part 1
"If I win you, you owe me lunch - " Skye started.
" - and if I win, you're going on a date with me!" Wilson exclaimed gleefully while she rolled her eyes.
The two buddies were sitting amidst the bustling crowd in the lecture theatre that morning, each having a faced down paper on their own tables. They were placing a bet on the person with the higher grade for their Chemistry end of year examination and Skye thought that it was essentially crucial to win hands down this time.
"One," Wilson began.
"Two," Skye grinned.
"Three!" they practically screamed, with some of the crowd turning around to frown at their immaturity.
"Hah! Sixty-seven percent! So how about movies?" he waved his script in front of her face.
"Aww, I love that concern Will, but I got sixty-eight!" she slammed her paper on his table and stuck out her tongue at him in final victory.
"Will you guys quit the childish acts?" Geraldine, their classmate, rolled her eyes next to them. "And Dr. Rong looks like he's gonna kill us if we don't shut up this instant."
Sure enough, Dr. Rong, the cohort's Chemistry lecturer was wearing the look of a thousand daggers. Apparently he found the noise level a bit too unbearable.
"Quiet!" he nearly spat into the microphone in front of him. His well-known influence earned him the utmost respect he deserved - the entire lecture theatre fell silent.
"Now I shall announce the top student of this Chemistry exam."
Skye swore she saw a taint curl to his lips.
The second Dr. Rong said that, it send many ripples of murmurs across the crowd. He waited for a while before everyone fell silent again.
"Josh Lau."
With that, the cohort muttered an audible "aww" before giving a reluctant applause.
"Gee, what's with that loser? Topping all of the Chemistry tests and exams so far," Wilson grumbled as Josh stood up from the crowd to receive his prize.
"Yea, what a freak!" Skye nodded fervently beside him.
"You guys are just jealous. You should see the amount of work he put it to earn the top position he always did," Geraldine said as Dr. Rong pronounced them dismissed.
"Hey, Ger. What do you know? You got an E for goodness sake," Wilson taunted as he bolted out of the theatre before she could respond.
She scowled as she watched him disappear round the bend.
Skye, however, was sitting there in a daze instead of running after her friend.
'Josh won't be top for long,' she thought to herself. 'He will see sweet defeat one day.'
And boy, her plan sure was downright evil.

The Love Triangle - Part 4
"Piper, Piper, Piper," Jacob chuckled. "You've got that two twirling around that finger of yours!"
It had been a week since the group had their strange outing.
"Not that I wanted to," she cringed, chewing her slice of chicken meat very slowly.
Jacob and Piper met up for their usual lunch session that afternoon.
"Well, the funny thing is that," he said as he waved his fork dangerously at Piper. "Neither one has mentioned you in front of the other. They behaved as if nothing happened that day! Shouldn't they be fighting it out or something?"
That very thought made her feel a teeny weeny bit nauseous.
"I mean, every man for himself right?" Jacob continued, not noticing the faint greenish tinge on her face. "Gee, they must really cherish their friendship."
Piper quietly wished this was certainly so.
***
Piper smiled to herself as she scanned every gift that was scattered out on her bed.
Bears to flowers to accessories. You name it, she's got it.
Stephan definitely got her hooked onto him and she felt she would never be any happier with another guy.
Stephan was her guy, she always thought without a doubt.
Oh boy, she sure was wrong.
***
"Why did you drag me here?" Piper hissed at Jacob as they entered a house, their nostrils instantly filled with a feminine perfume scent.
Jacob had persuaded Piper to do stuff at Harold's house that Sunday morning. She critically thought the word "stuff" used by him was a little too vague. She had originally planned to dedicate the rest of the month into forgetting Harold, and being at his place wasn't a very good idea.
"By orders, I swear," Jacob signalled her the Scout's Promise.
Before she could complain any further, they were greeted by a short, round and plump woman, who was wearing a beaming smile.
"Hello children! Harold's still in bed," she gave a cluck of disappointment. "I reckon you just give him a good hard kick to wake that bum up. And I'm making spaghetti for lunch, hope that's fine with you."
Without waiting for an answer, she hurried back into the kitchen.
"Right, let's kick that lazy ass then," Jacob said cheerily as he proceeded up the stairs, leaving Piper trailing behind him.
***
"Hey dude!" Jacob called as he shook Harold violently.
Harold just gave a snort, and rolled over.
"How about you try?" he suggested, giving Piper a nudge.
As she tried to shake him awake, she couldn't help noticing how gorgeous he looked, even when he's asleep.
"That lazy git," Jacob snarled. "Try pinching him or something."
'Oh my,' she thought as she examined the sleeping Harold further. 'He has fantastic eyelashes.'
She moved closer towards him to have a good look. Unfortunately, his eyelids flew open at the same time and he found himself staring straight at Piper's face.
He screamed and fell out of his bed, causing Jacob to laugh non-stop. Piper wasn't too pleased, though.
"Well, I can see that you're awake," she told Harold haughtily. "We'll meet you in the games room."
She grabbed Jacob and pulled him out of the room, leaving Harold quite speechless.
***
"Did you enjoy yourself today?" Harold asked Piper, gingerly.
It was already nightfall, and at the moment, Jacob was having a go with Harold's PC game and Piper was trying to make funny faces in his full-length mirror.
"It was rad enough," she answered, flashing him a smile, which he returned.
Jacob noticed that the situation had gotten a little bit odd, and suddenly excused himself to the kitchen for a drink.
However, Harold's eyes never left Piper even when Jacob made his way out of the room.
She felt her face growing a little hot, and her pulse was racing like never before. She thought it was a little unusual, because she never felt this way before. Even with Stephan.
"Piper..." he started again. This time, she felt like her heart was going to jump out.
'No,' she mentally reminded herself. 'Stephan is the guy, you want.' With that, she decided to leave to avoid any awkward situations with Harold.
Just before she could tell him anything, he suddenly pulled her towards him and (Piper nearly died of shock) kissed her.
The worst thing that happened next was that she was kissing him back.
Many thoughts flashed through her mind as she felt his lips. Shocked, she suddenly pulled away from Harold's embrace, leaving a puzzled look on his face.
'I can't,' she thought. 'It's so unfair to Stephan.'
With a tear rolling down her cheek, she bolted out of the house, without even apologising when she bumped into Jacob along the way.
***
'What is love?' Piper thought angrily to herself as she looked out her bedroom window into the nightsky.
A day ago, she had thought that Stephan was the key to unlocking her heart. She felt like she was over the moon whenever he was around. He showered her with so many gifts, and she thought she was the happiest girl in the world.
Yet, when she was with Harold today, she experienced so many heart-wrenching moments like never before. Every slight move he made just caused her heart to skip a beat. She was head over heels with his presence, even when he never offered any gift.
When her brain suddenly registered this crucial point, she quickly made a dash for her mobile to punch in Harold's number.
She had been fooling herself all along.
She didn't love Stephan one bit. It was his care she adored.
She loved Harold.

The Love Triangle - Part 3
"Hooray! Piper conquered Chinese exams!" Piper pumped her fist into the air.
"Watch it, girl. I don't want to be seen as a paedophile," Jacob snarled at her and she stuck her tongue back in return.
The same group of 8 that met up for the steamboat dinner was going cycling at the park that afternoon in celebration of the end of CLAO examinations.
"I don't know what's the fuss," Stephan yawned, winking flirtatiously at Piper who smiled back. "I mean, the paper was no kick."
"Sure you say that," Jimmy punched him playfully on the arm. "You didn't take the paper in the first place!"
Stephan was a student of the Language Electives Program and he had no paper due that day.
"What's taking Harold so long?" John glanced at his watch.
The minute John finished his sentence, Harold was seen dragging his feet out of the train station.
Piper saw his bloodshot eyes met hers. However, instead of his usual boyish grin, he looked away.
She turned to look at Jacob, who could only shrug back.
***
"Are you sure you don't want to cycle?" Colin asked Piper and Stephan. "Weather's lovely for cycling today and the guys are totally psyched." He pointed to the rest of the gang, who was getting their own bikes at the rental shop.
"No can do," Piper groaned, rubbing her stomach. "I must have ate something wrong for lunch!"
Colin nodded to show his acknowledgement, and turned to look at Stephan for an explanation.
"I'm afraid she'll get lonely," Stephan grinned, showing his dimples.
"Okay lover boy, don't harm her when we're away," Colin teased as he rode off.
Piper turned to look at Harold, but his back had already turned on them as the group cycled away.
***
"Dinner! Glorious, glorious food," Colin cheered as the group met again at the food court.
"Great, I'm famished," Harold said, flashing a smile in Piper's direction.
She had to admit, her spirits rose a little.
"Shall we sit here then?" Stephan suggested, signalling the group a table.
Piper moved in to sit next to him, but she felt a tug on her arm. Surprised, she turned around to see Harold grabbing onto her wrist.
"As your boss," he said calmly and slowly, but without looking at her in the eye. "You are to sit with me."
Everyone was frozen to the spot and the awkward silence came.
"Now, nobody disobeys the Man!" Jacob chuckled uncomfortably in a bid to break the silence, pushing her out of the way and sliding in on the seat beside Stephan.
The guys shrugged, but nodded in agreement nevertheless.
***
"I'm full," Stephan announced half an hour later.
"Me too!" Piper exclaimed proudly.
"Shall we go for a walk then?" he asked her, unknowingly blushing in the process.
Jacob gave an audible hacking cough.
"Sure," she found herself obliging to his request.
However when she stood up, she felt another tug on her arm again. Sure enough, she turned to see Harold clutching onto her wrist once more.
"Don't go," this time he looked at her straight at the eye, his eyes rounder and brimming with sincerity. "Please."
The rest of the gang, except Stephan, chose to ignore the situation this time and continued their own conversation.
Piper found herself rooted to the spot. Before she could answer, Harold unexpectedly released her hand.
"Come back soon."

The Love Triangle - Part 2
Piper quickly warmed up to the guys after a few rounds of MSN chatting and group studying.
Little did she know that two of the guys had already fallen for her charm.
Stephan would never fail to call her every night to chat about their individual school lives while Harold always kept her occupied on MSN with neverending conversations.
Piper obviously noticed this special treatment but had absolutely no idea on how to react. She found both of them equally lovely, yet she hated to break any of their hearts if she chose one. And if she chose neither, she would be on the losing end as well. Jacob, unfortunately, was no help either.
"You could always date BOTH of them," he teased and she would scowl back.
She did know one thing, however. She had to choose quickly.
***
Piper sighed as she watched her fellow CCA mates entertain the primary school kids that visited their booth. It was her school's open house that day, and while she should be having fun since it was organised in a carnival-style to celebrate the end of promotional examinations, she bored stiff.
She toyed with her hair lazily, building sand-castles in the air.
"Hey Piper!" a boyish voice called out from the crowd.
She whirled around, and found Stephan waving at her from the mass of people around him, giving her an extremely adorable grin when she waved back.
He fought his way through the sea of strangers to get to Piper and she could see the the beads of pespiration on his forehead.
'Aww, he came all the way here, just for me!' she thought dreamily.
"Hey, I came to check out your school's carnival and it's pretty radical," he praised at a beaming Piper. He looked around her before dropping his audible tone to a whisper. "Want to check out earlier?"
She nodded, a little too eagerly.
Piper handed her bag over to Stephan, who walked away casually. When she saw that her friends were still preoccupied with the over-enthusiatic youngsters, she gave them the slip.
***
"I trust you enjoyed your dinner," Stephan said as they sat down to enjoy the breeze at the Esplanade Bay.
"Yes. I meant, it was free, I better enjoy it," she giggled shyly.
Then there was an awkward silence.
"Erm..." his voice trailed off as his hand reached for something in his backpack. "This is for you!"
Piper tore her eyes away from the majestic merlion she was admiring to find herself staring at a brown bear clutching tightly onto a red flower.
She knew she was happy, but she somehow she felt loss for words.
"Piper," Stephan brushed her hair away from her eyes. "I really like you..."
She felt him moving closer towards her, and she could only close her eyes to anticipate his next move.
***
"You can't be serious!" Jacob exclaimed, choking on his Coke Light. "He really kissed you?"
She nodded, biting her lip anxiously.
"Wow. I mean, you, of all girls," he chuckled. His laughter ended quickly when she shot him a glare.
"I have a funny feeling though," she frowned into her Sprite. "I mean, I'm happy that he actually has a thing for me but I can't show it!"
"Maybe you have some emotional problem," he shrugged. "You should be happy after all. He rejected damn lot of girls for you."
"Is Harold hurt?" Piper asked him, gingerly.
"He has no damn clue man! No damn clue he's fighting with his best friend for the same girl. Gee, Piper, you're one hell of a troublemaker."
For the first time that night, she found herself nodding in agreement with Jacob.

The Love Triangle - Part 1
Piper frowned, showing her sheer annoyance, while looking at her watch for the hundredth time since she boarded the train. She heaved a sigh of relief when the train suddenly plunged into a dark tunnel, signalling that her stop was just 5 minutes away. Catching sight of her reflection from the window of the door, she quickly re-adjusted her deep blue mini-skirt and straightened her baggy white shirt. Not wanting to scare the company she was going to meet, she relaxed her facial muscles and flashed a gentle smile at her own reflection.
"Perfect," she cheered herself on as she thought enthusiatically to herself.
When the train pulled to a stop, she rushed out of the train station as fast as she could to credit herself for trying to be punctual for the meeting. Though it was quite ironic, since she was actually already 20 minutes late. She beamed at a lanky-looking boy leaning casually against the pillar, decked in white shirt and khaki pants, his hair looking quite unkempt.
The boy stood up straight quickly as soon as he caught sight of her and grinned back.
"Woah, Piper. Did you actually prepare for this social meeting?" he teased, pushing his glasses to his shallow face.
"Hey Jacob. You mean make up and stuff? Hell no! I was working out at the gym with my mum and I lost track of the time. I mean I have to lose all those fats that I'm going to gain at dinner!" Piper giggled.
"You gotta be kidding. You don't look any inch skinner," he laughed. Piper pinched him playfully. "Okay, okay. Ouch man. Anyway, I would like to introduce you to my friends."
That's when she noticed for the first time the group of guys hanging around behind her friend. They all smiled kindly and nodded in recognition as they were introduced one by one.
"That's John, Jimmy, Colin, Philip, Stephan and our boss, Harold."
Piper raised her eyebrow when one of them was known as their "boss". She narrowed her view on Harold and expected some burlish boy with a nose of a snob and a demanding kind of look. Instead she found herself staring at an angel, to her opinion. He had perfectly round, brown eyes and the cutest nose she had ever seen. His lips were nicely cut out and his spiked hair fitted him to the T and he would have been the no. 1 hunk in the country if not for his height. He stood about 10cm above Piper, who was only 5 feet 2.
"Hey, I heard a lot about you," Harold gave her a toothy grin.
"Right, now let's get on with dinner. I'm absolutely starving!" Jacob cut in before she could respond and signalled for the group to move.
"Can you remind why you dragged me down on your little Boys' Scout outing?" Piper hissed at Jacob as they proceeded away from the station.
"To widen your social circle," he joked, yet again. However, on seeing the killer look in her eyes, he quickly added, "Well, I thought that the guys should get used to having a girl around. We are all idiots when it comes to socialising with girls and since you're my best mate, you're the perfect candidate."
"So now it's a dummy's course to getting a date?" she scorned at her friend. "Well, they all look pretty cute though." She nodded to the group trailing behind them.
"Now now, this isn't your matchmaking session," he winked.
***
"Another round, Piper?" Stephan asked, offering me another scoop of boiled fishballs.
"Thanks," Piper smiled at him, admiring his stylish hairdo as he dumped the contents into her bowl.
The group of 8 arrived at a steamboat restaurant and settled in on two tables. Jacob insisted that Piper shouldn't be so anti-social and made her sit with Stephan, Philip and Harold on one table while the rest were at the other.
"How are the preparations for the promos?" Harold turned towards her and asked politely.
"Okay, I guess," Piper answered, biting her lip nervously.
He grinned boyish-ly as he nodded in recognition and turned back to his food.
'Gosh. They were supposed to be the dumbfounded ones, not me!' she thought desperately in her mind.
"I heard from Jacob that you're a whiz when it comes to Science. We could study together if you don't mind. I desperately need some coaching in Physics," Stephan confessed earnestly.
'I love those dimples!' she thought, mesmerised. Stephan was handsome, without a doubt. His dimples shone whenever he smiled, and his eyes were as bright as the stars in the nightsky. Plus he was tall and lean -- every girls' dreamland.
"Yea, count me in." Harold chipped in. Philip nodded fervently beside him.
"Sure," Piper agreed shyly.
'Three hunks would definitely make studying for the year end exams a lot more interesting,' she beamed as she helped herself to more food.

WOW. It's been a damn long time since both of us blogged here. =X
About half an hour ago, the curiosity got the better of me so I decided to check on how the good, old blog was doing. I read through our past entries and omg, I used to write some damn good stories!
Yea, yea, the ego's arising.
Don't worry, Edwin. Before you decided to abandon blogging altogether, you had some pretty good entries yourself. =X
Right, so an idea struck me (electron flow!) when I was reminiscing the memories. Since Mr Ong Hanze has permanently boycotted blogs and I'm in a writing kind of mood (feeling totally inspired =P), I shall turn our Looney Two blog into a temporary site for my stories until Hanz decides to let his creative juices flow again!
Tada! *clap clap*
Re-enactment:
"Hey, you know my sea monkeys? The one you guys bought for my birthday; they seemed to have vanished over time!" Edwin exclaimed irritably while I chewed on my baked pasta.
"I don't know. Maybe they hate you or something," I cheekily replied as I added more powdered cheese to my dish, savouring the pure disgust on Edwin's face as I did that.
(Ps: He HATES cheese.)
"Argh. I wonder if ToysRUs sells the special hatching powder so I can grow some more," He quickly looked away from my overflowing cheese as his thoughts trailed off.
"Huh? They probably think we're retarded to play the dumb thing in the first place."
"Well I could mention that it's for my kid sister," he grinned in my direction in which I rolled my eyes in reply.
"Hey, I will drop by your place for a while later to check on your sea monkeys alright?" I asked him.
"I told you that they're dead! EVERY BLOODY ONE OF THEM. Two days ago there were still five wriggling away. Yesterday there was one! And I even left my study lamp on to give them light and feed them on a regular basis and..." Edwin's voice trailed off as he did animated actions to describe his tender loving care.
He can be such a joke sometimes.
***
I peered through the glass carefully and frowned. In a bid to prove myself wrong, I gave the container a little shake, but only to send bits of residue and sediments swimming in all directions.
"You see! Not one damn monkey left!" Edwin prodded the container fiercely, unknowingly creating a hurricane of residues in the water.
"Told ya they hated you," I grinned. "Right now, MTV here I come!"
***
Rubbing my watering eyes, I stared at the adamant question for the tenth time. Before I set my pen on my paper, my handphone, which laid faithfully at the corner of my desk, alerted me that I had a message waiting. Relieved that I could finally rest my brain cells for a moment, I laughed carelessly when I saw the message I received from my dear pal.
"OMG MY SEA MONKEYS ARE ALIVE! FIVE ARE WRIGGLING AWAY NOW!"
